Bullies are a common problem in middle school. They torment kids and often hurt kids. Almost every school, if not every school, has bullies. The hardest part about dealing with bullies is that you never know how far is too far. There are a lot of questions that kids have when dealing with bullies, so lets just start with addressing the most common ones.
Who should I tell? First off, don't keep it to yourself if you are being bullied. Make sure that if a bully is hurting you, don't let them continue to do so. Next off, tell a trusted adult: maybe a trusted teacher, a parent, an older sibling, the school guidance cousellor, or a coach. It may seem embarrassing to have to tell, but if you or someone else is being harmed, you need to be sure that an adult is being told so that the harrassment can stop.
Why should I be a "tattle~tale? Saving someone from harm is never "tattling." Tattling is telling on someone just to get them in trouble. Telling an adult to stop another human being from getting hurt IS NOT tattling. In fact it could save another student's life. Being hated by a bully is completely worth saving another student's life.
What are some consequences of bullying? Bullying is serious. There are a lot of consequences. Bullying a person can lead them to depression, suicide, mental injury, and/or physical harm. Bullying can hurt someone bad enough that it will stick with them for the rest of their life, a constant reminder that they were bullied in school.
How do I stop a bully? Tell a parent, tell an adult, tell someone who can help. Bullying is serious and can't be remedied by bullying back. It's as simple as this: fighting fire with fire is only going to create a bigger fire. It's not going to stop the first fire that you were fighting. So why create a bigger mess? Keep it simple and get some help. Hurting another person won't solve anything.
